Experimental Posters
poster design, layout design
Posters created as an experiment in combining physical and digital techniques
When creating these posters, I focused on the concept of type as image while experimenting with collage and sculpture. I had no specific purpose in mind other than to give myself the opportunity to play around and discover new techniques and processes to use in future work.
As a young designer, I tend to rely on digital techniques. While there are great advantages to working digitally, more traditional techniques are just as valuable and often overlooked. The processes I followed to create these posters taught me to remember that there is more to graphic design than what I can do on a computer. In the end, physically making collages and building a letter with chip board, hot glue, and paper tape was significantly faster than if I had tried to mimic things like texture and shadow through purely digital means. Not only did I enjoy creating for the sake of creating during this project, I learned new approaches to design that I have continued to apply to my process ever since.
